Details

ST JULIOT NEW MILLS SX 19 SW 2/137 Cottage 90m to southwest of Elm Cottage II House. Possibly C18. Painted and rendered stone rubble. Slate roof with gable ends. Stone rubble stack on left hand gable end. Probably a 2-room and cross passage plan with heated room on left, right-hand room unheated. Further small unheated room probably added in circa early C19 on right hand gable end. Two storeys. Regular two window front with C19 3 over 6 pane sash on left, stable type door, 2-light casement and single casement on right. Two possibly C19 2-light casements on first floor. The eaves appear to have been raised on the rear elevation. Interior not accessible. Particularly unspoilt cottage with front and rear elevation unaltered. Area venerated by writer and poet Thomas Hardy.
