Tower, now house,and adjoining wall. c1887. For Henry Isaac Butterfield.
Thin coursed rubble, ashlar dressings, roof not visible. 5-stage
tower, square on plan, with battered 1st stage. Quoins, chamfered
bands. 1st 4 stages each have chamfered rectangular window to each
side with doorway set in north-east wall. Embattled top stage jettied
out on each side on corbells. 3 faces are decorated with
a) crest b) "V.R." c) "H.I.B." Adjoining wall to north-west has
embattled parapet and carved tablet the lettering in bold relief reading
" JUBILEE YEAR 1887 "
VICTORIA. R.I.
DIAMOND JUBILEE. 1897
A prominent landmark built to celebrate Queen Victoria's Jubilee.
