TL 55 63 SWAFFHAM BULBECK COMMERCIAL END (East side) 14/10010 No 74 and Bowyers Cottage

GV II

2 cottages, formerly 3. Early C19, perhaps with earlier core (dated 1730). Probably for Thomas Bowyer, d.1824. Rendered timber-frame and pantile roof with brick ridge stack. Probably single-unit with pantry plan originally. Single-storey and attic; 7-window range in all of single- and 2-light light windows some with horizontal sliding sashes. 4 horizontal sliding sash dormers above. Interiors not inspected. This little altered row of cottages is probably among those built (or remodelled in this case) by Thomas Bowyer for his workforce. He was an important local merchant operating trading activities on the Swaffham Lode from a nearby wharf. (RCHM (North East Cambs.); p.111; Mon.47)
