BURFORD AND UPTON HIGH STREET AND SIGNET (East Side) SP2512 (Enlargement) Burford Grammar School 7/54 Buildings on SW Corner 12.9.55 of Lawrence Lane.

Two burgage houses under one roof, now part of Burford Grammar School. c.1700-1720, altered C19 and C20 with new roof and adaptation to school purposes. Ashlar front, Cotswold stone roof, hipped to North return. 2 storeys; 5:7 bays, chamfered quoins, including quoin strip between the two houses, wooden modillion eaves cornice. Late C18, C19 and late C20 glazing bar sash windows, the left-hand house has moulded architraves with moulded plinths and cills; central window smaller and pedimented with pulvinated frieze, former doorway below blocked and next a matching window. The right hand part has raised flat architraves, mostly C20 restorations, with cock-beads and keystones; 3:1:3 bays, central wide C20 entry in matching style. Rubble chimney to right. Rubble return to Lawrence Lane retains one range of early C18 windows (restored), on 1st floor with transom, on ground floor with mullion and transom. Mid C19 1:2-bay extension. Right hand part has Sun Fire Insurance Mark (No 82516) in centre of 1st floor.
