Details
LAYER MARNEY WICK ROAD l. 5214 Wick Farmhouse TL 91 IN 16/34 II* 2. Late Cl6 house, incorporating remains of C15 open hall. Timber-framed and plastered rectangular plan, 3 bays and chimney bay, with gabled red plain tile roof. Two storeys. Three window range late C18 vertical sliding double hung tri-partite sashes. Simple pediment doorcase with modem part glazed door. ?Mid Cl6 central chimney stack with diagonal pilaster strips, 4 shafts and a square base, with moulded capping. Early Cl7 end chimney stack. Two gabled wings to rear. Internally little of the C15 remains, except some main frame members and some "great bricks" in tile base of the centre stack. Part of original cross wing remains with heavy floor joists. Cl6 detailing in extensive. Stop chamfered floor joists. Two fireplaces one with timber mantel beam and the other with 3 centred brick arch. Jowled storey poets. Some soot blackened rafters re-used in roof. Late C18 panelling, doors and iron-mongery, all of good quality. (RCHM 4).
