Details
The following building shall be included in the list:-
EXETER GLASSHOUSE LANE SX 98 NW Lower Wear 26/1257 Riverside Cottage II
Cottage. Circa C18 or early C19. Plastered cob. Thatched roof, half-hipped at left (north west) end and gabled at right (north east) end. Gable end stack with slate weathered set-off and red brick shaft. Plan: Small 1-room plan cottage, heated from a stack in the right hand gable end and entered through a doorway in the splayed front left hand corner. There is a winder staircase in the back left hand corner to the chamber above. In C20 a small porch was built on the splayed corner and a small outshut was added to the right hand end. Exterior: 1 storey and attic. South west front has C19 cast-iron 2-light casement with small panes at centre of ground floor. Splayed corner to left has small C20 porch clad in steel sheets and 2-light casement above. The right hand gable end has projecting stack to right and cast-iron casement on each floor to left of single light on ground floor and 2-light on first floor both with small panes. Small C20 painted brick outshut on right. Left hand end has wooden casement on ground floor. Rear elevation is blind. Interior: Chamfered cross beam. Winder stairs on rear left corner to chamber which has Cl9 cast-iron fire grate. Ledged doors. Probably original roof structure, its principal rafters and purlins exposed in chamber.
