Details

MINSTER WAYBOROUGH HILL TR 36 NW (West Side) 2/52 Wayborough Manor 11-10-63 II* House. C15 and C16. Originally for William of Wey, c.1460, but now largely C16. Timber framed, part exposed with plaster infill, underbuilt with flint and brick. Plain tiled roof. Originally four framed bay house, now E plan. Two storeys with continuous jetty, the ground floor underbuilt, the first floor close-studded. Hipped roof with stacks to centre right and end left. Two 3 light and central 5 light mullioned oriels on first floor and three 3 light transomed amd mullioned windows on ground floor with glazed door to centre left. Right return: continuous jetty on dragon posts, the end bay with much wider spaced close studding and tension braces. The rear elevation of this wing has arch braces. Five light transomed oriel with sidelights. Entrance in rear courtyard a four centred arched doorway in 2 storey porch. Interior: The western (left return) wing a late C16 addition, with queen strut roof. Main range with large uncambered tie beams, originally with heavy knee braces (missing). Same early fittings (panelled door).
