MESSING-CUM-INWORTH MESSING PARK 1. 5214 Messing Park TL 81 NE 15/27 7.4.65 II* 2. Early C18 house in pale red brick, extensively altered in early C19, when a facade was added to 3 sides in grey gault brick. Two storeys. North east front is 5 window range double hung, vertical sliding sashes with glazing bars. Centre front breaks forward, with fine Doric porch. Parapet wall. Originally there was a 'Venetian' window and pediment at parapet level, but the pediment, and semi-circular window head have been removed. North-west front has 2 two storey bays, serpentine on plan, with central doorway and double hung vertical sliding sashes built on the curve. South-east front has double hung sashes in recessed segmental arches and pilasters. High brick plinth. Roofs grey slate and red plain tile. Hipped. C19 and C20 extensions at rear linking with C18 brick outbuildings, 2 storey red plain tile roofs, windows at rear include 2 semi-circular headed C18 casements. Internally there is a fine circa 1700 staircase, with moulded handrail and turned balustrers. Doors, ironmongery, ceiling covings, fireplace surrounds all of high quality and dating from circa 1800. Cellars have some C16 brickwork and a C16 mullioned window not in-situ.
