TQ 2881 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER WIMPOLE STREET, W1 45/59 (East side) 14.3.66 Nos 33 to 36(consec) G.V. II Terraced town houses. 1770s Portland Estate development, probably by John White. Stock brick; slate roofs. 4 or 5 storeys on basements. 3-window wide astylar fronts. Broad semicircular arched doorways to left and adjoining at Nos 33 and 34; Nos 33, 34 and 36 have stucco rustications, with Coade head keystones and imposts; panelled doors, side lights and patterned fanlights in Venetian window composition (except for No 35), that of No 36 with Ionic columned jambs; No 35 has Ionic columns projecting from reveals with entablature carried in over pilaster jambs and doorhead. Recessed sashes, under flat gauged arches. Nos 35 and 36 have bracketed cornices over 2nd floor. Parapets with copings. Geometric patterned cast iron balconies to 1st floors. Plumbed spike finials to cast iron area railings at No 34, the rest with wrought iron railings with flambe urn finials and No 33 with good scrolled and urn patterned bracketed lampholders. Interiors retain geometrical staircases with wrought iron balustrades, cornices and friezes, good wreathed plasterwork ceilings to some of 1st floor rooms, statuary marble chimneypieces; etc.
