Details
TQ 2881 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER WIMPOLE STREET Wl 45/47 (East side) Nos 42 and 43 5.2.70 GV II Terraced-town houses. 1770s Portland Estate development, probably by John White (some early to mid C19 alterations to No 43). Stock brick with channelled stucco ground floors: slate roofs, 4 storeys and basements. 3- window wide astylar fronts. Broad semicircular arched doorway to right of No 42 with stucco rustication and Coade head keystone, No 43 with stucco Ionic columned porch to right; panelled doors, sidelights and patterned fanlights in plain Venetian window composition. Recessed sashes under flat gauged arches to upper floors. Plat bands over ground floors, with guilloche enrichment to No 43 which also has 2nd and 3rd floor sill bands and dentil cornice below parapet with coping. No 42 has cast iron Victorian window guards to 1st floor. Cast iron balcony to No 43. Flambé urn finials to wrought iron area railings. Interiors not inspected.
