Quarrymasters' House. C17, extended 1698 by Christopher Kempster (one of Wren's master masons, who also provided stone for St Paul's). C19 extensions to North, C20 extensions to West; remodelled by Gordon Russell, Rubble to cottage, barn and extensions, fine-jointed cut and squared rubble for 1698 extension, Cotswold stone roofs. Ashlar end and rear chimneys. Main part (East front): 2 storeys; 5 windows, 3 of them doubled and lengthened in mid-C20 in matching style, simple architraves, C20 casements; the lintel of central window inscribed "CHRISTOPHER KEMPSTER BUILT THIS IN 1698;" door off-centre left with flat architrave, edge-bead and flat hood. Irregular C19 and C20 gabled service extensions to North. Barn with much steeper pitch roof and now with late C20 chamfered mullion window in North bay. To rear (entrance) the elevation is irregular with central lean-to front, projecting 2-storey-and-attic C17 cottage to right with 2- and 3-light mullioned windows and also similar windows to sides. The barn has projecting gabled midstrey (and now late C20 mullion window to North bay!). Interior: C19 passage masks segment- headed entry to 1698 part, numerous fittings of c.1700. Mid C20 well stair in C17 style beside the C17 cottage.
