Details
EASTON ON THE HILL TINWELL DRIFT TFOONW (West side) 1/81 Keepers Lodge at TF 0064 0523 - II Game Keepers house. Datestone 1845, probably by Bryan Browning, for the Marquis of Exeter, Burghley House. Squared coursed limestone with Collyweston slate roof. Originally 2-unit plan with attached game larder, forming an L-shape range. 2 storeys. Main front is 3 bays. Central gablet has single-light stair window under gauged stone head. C19 casement window, under similar head, to ground floor right. Large gabled porch breaks forward to left. Plank door is set under open verandah with turned wooden pillar and seats. Half timbered decoration in apex of gable and wooden bargeboard with quatrefoil decoration. Brick end and lateral stacks have twin flues linked by an arch and each having open crown finials. Datestone in central gablet has coronet of the Marquis of Exeter above the date. Left gable has C19 casement windows and elevation to right has half dormer with a similar window. Lean-to projection below window said to have been a bread oven. Rear range, originally the game larder, is now incorporated into the house. Interior not inspected. (RCHM: An Inventory of Architectural Monuments in North Northamptonshire: p61)
