STAVELEY-IN-CARTMEL STAVELEY SD 38 NE 7/96 Barrow Fold (formerly 35.3.70 listed as Rose Cottage)

House. Probably C17 or early C18. Roughcast stone with slate roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays. Windows have small-paned casements; ground floor has bow window in former entrance to 1st bay and window to 3rd bay; 1st floor has window to 2nd bay and stair window to 4th bay. Entrance in gabled porch has boarded door with C19 decorative hinges and handle. Narrow projecting gable-end stack and cross- axial stack. Right return has dripcourses to both floors and continuous sill to ground floor, one window in former entrance. Rear has wing to 3rd bay. Windows with small-paned fixed glazing and opening lights to 1st and 4th bays of 1st floor. Wing has gable-end stack and later lean-to extension; window to left return has 3-light frame, intermediate bars and central iron casement, entrances to inner angle and to extension. Interior has chamfered beams, part of hall is open to roof, 2 balconies, one with ex-situ balustrade, splat balusters and moulded handrail. Fireplace has corbelled timber lintel, fielded-panel spice cupboard door to side. Another fireplace has plaster panel, possibly C17, with 2 strips of oak leaf trail pattern over timber lintel. C20 stair has probably ex-situ plank and muntin panelling, similar panelling to 1st floor.
