Details

WOODNEWTON MAIN STREET TL0394 (South side) 19/213 Broughton House GV II House. Early C17 extend later C17, C19 and C20. Squared coursed limestone and lias, part banded. Collyweston slate roof. Originally 2-unit plan, now T-shape. 2 storeys. Elevation to Main Street has gable end abutting road to right. One-window range, to left, has C19 casement, under wood lintel, to ground floor. Return wall of cross-wing has similar one-window range to ground and first floors. 6-panel door, to left, under stone lintel. Former lean-to attached to right of gable end is now raised in brick and with a flat roof. Blocked 2-light stone mullion cellar window and single-light window with moulded stone surround. Ashlar gable parapets and stone stack at ridge. C19 and C20 single-storey extensions to right. Interior not inspected but noted as having an open fireplace with stop-chamfered bressumer, with pyramid stops. (RCHM: An Inventory of Architectural Monuments in North Northamptonshire: p170)
