House and barn attached at right angles. House initialled and dated "W A 1706",
barn possibly earlier but may be contemporary. Hammer-dressed stone, stone
slate roofs. House: quoins. 2 storeys with single-storey outshut or aisle to
rear. Quoins. Two 1st-floor windows. Central doorway has composite jambs and
Tudor-arched lintel with date inscription set within a tressure and stop-chamfered
surround which continues to form spandrels. Above is inserted mid C20 window.
To either side double-chamfered mullioned windows with almost square reveals all
lacking mullions: to left 5-light window with 4-light window above; to right,
4-light window to right of inserted C19 cottage doorway (No 2) with monolithic
jambs with 4-light window above. Gable stack to left, external stack to right.
Attached to left-hand return is 3-bay single-aisled barn with quoins and tall
segmental-arched cart entry with voussoirs, raised keystone and skewbacks.
Rear of barn has smaller opposing doorway with tie-stone jambs and wooden lintel.
Left-hand return of barn has mistal doorway with tie-stone jambs and chamfered
surround to aisle. Pitching hole to apex with wooden lintel (now window) with
columbarium above.
Interior: house: timbered-arcade to outshut has 2 large posts on padstones.
Barn: good timbered interior - posts on padstones with curved braces to arcade
plate and tie-beam of king-post trusses with single-angle struts. If the house
and barn are contemporary the two provide an interesting example of a laithe-house
with the unusual form of the barn at right-angles to the house and as such similar
to Pinnacle, Erringden, Hebden Royd (q.v.).
