Town Head Farmhouse
& adjoining barn
range to south

Farmhouse, probably rebuilt in 1790's as part of Newbiggin Hall estate.
Coursed, squared rubble with quoins. Graduated slate roof has brick tops to
original stone end chimneys. Symmetrical 2-storey 3-bay front has central door
with single 16-pane sash to either side and 2 to 1st floor; all openings in
stone surrounds. Barn/byre range under corrugated asbestos roof adjoins on
left; present wooden lintel to threshing floor's wagon door is probably later
alteration. Original byre door with small window to left. Range extended at
later date under same roof with various additional openings (some blocked)
including hay-loft access in gable wall. Segmental arch to coach-house door
(adjoining to south, 2 storeys, 3 bays under welsh slate roof) has been partly
dismantled and C20 concrete lintel inserted; 2 windows to 1st floor. Attached
single-storey stable has doors to rear.
