The Catchpenny Public House
II
House, now public house. Probably late C18; altered. Coursed squared
sandstone, modern tiled roof. Double-depth plan. Two storeys and 5 bays,
symmetrical; sill-bands to both floors; central round-headed doorway with
recessed panelled door, moulded imposts, fanlight with arched glazing bars,
moulded head with small keystone (lamp now attached to this), and pedimented
Tuscan architrave with engaged columns and moulded frieze; 4 vertical-
rectangular windows at ground floor and 5 above, all with raised plain
surrounds and altered glazing (12-pane top-hung casements); moulded eaves
cornice; hipped roof (without chimneys). Right-hand return wall has inter
alia a tall round-headed stairlight with raised plain surround and glazing
bars radiating in the head.
Interior: remodelled.
