Details
DUNLOE STREET E2 1. 5013 (South Side) ---------------- St Chad's Vicarage TQ 3383 30/197 II*
Circa 1870 by James Brooks. Red brick building of 3 storeys and attic with steeply-pitched slated roof. Irregular arrangement. Left bay under gable, 2 windows wide: then a projecting, 3/4 round turet with conical roof then a half-gabled section bounded at right by a blank chimney-breast and finally a narrow -window right bay. There is a strong suggestion of a fortified mediaeval house of Scottish-French character. Continuous cill strings and hoodmoulds on each floor, the latter rising to pointed arches, filled with header bond, above the windows. Closely-set lancets in turret, with heads and cills impinging on stone bands. At left main entrance under pointed arch. Boarded door, with good iron hinges, up 4 steps. Subsidiary door to right of turret. At left a short, 1-storey link to the Church.
The Church and Vicarage of St Chad form a group.
