TQ 2880 SE CITY OF WESTMINSTER PICCADILLY Wl 80/118 (north side) 22.8.83 Park Lane Hotel (Eastern Block) II Hotel. Built from 1924 by Messrs. Henry Tanner. Stone clad on extant steel frame. Listed for important interior of eastern block of hotel. 7 storeys and double dormered mansard. 5 windows wide. Central canopied entrance. The significant interiors are the Silver Gallery, staircase, Ballroom and adjoining rooms of the late 1920s fitted out in sumptuous Art Deco style. Ballroom in the basement by Higgs and Hill with vertical panelling to walls, with reliefs showing winged horses and youths, pink tinted and shaped mirrors, some with "fountain" light fittings; 3 frosted glass chandeliers; panelled ceiling with palmette-decorated cornices. Silver Gallery with silver leaf lacquered in gold to walls and paintings by Miss Gilbert; elaborate brass balustrade to staircase; original light fittings. Connoisseur, October 1981
