House and attached screen wall. Early C19 probably by Peter Atkinson (York) based on a plan by John Carr for Edward Lascelles, 1st Earl of Harewood. Hammer-dressed stone, stone slate roof. 2 storeys. Two 1st-floor windows to road front. Doorway with wooden surround and hood to left with tripartite sash above under flat-arch with voussoirs. Casement-moulded cornice. To left, wall coursed through and pierced by segmental-arched entrance to rear courtyard has ashlar coping. To right, bay breaks forward slightly and has semicircular- arched recess with impost band in which is set flat-arched window with smaller window above in other arch. Right return: 3 recessed archways with imposts band and windows as front; 2nd bay blind; 3rd bay altered by added bay window c1930 with Diocletian window above. Addition has 16-pane sash window with window above. Left-hand return has mid-C20 canted bay. Added to The Avenue as an entrance pavilion with the Old Vicarage (q.v.) on the south side when this became the main approach to Harewood House (q.v.).
