TQ 2981 SW & 2980 NW CITY OF WESTMINSTER REGENT STREET W1 57/6; 70/95 (east side) 22-11-73 Nos 172 to 206 (even) (including Nos 51 and 52 Kingly Street) GV II Block of offices and shops. Late C19 and early C20 roughly symmetrical range of various builds. Portland stone, slate roofs. The centre block, Nos 184-86 of c. 1897-99 by W. Woodward in Franco-Flemish Renaissance manner. South pavilion of c. 1915 and north pavilion of c. 1922, both by J. J. Joass. Main north and south blocks c. 1905 mostly to designs by H. Tanner (Nos 174 and 176 by Yates, Cook and Darbyshire; Nos 200-202 by Collcutt and Hamp) in a classical Beaux Arts style. 5 storeys and dormers in steep mansard. Major bays in rhythm 1:5:3:5:1. Ground floor with mid C20 shop fronts, still articulated by pilasters carrying entablature. The centre (Nos 184-86) has elaborate fenestration and orders to each upper floor with loggias and balustraded balconies and parapet. Pavilions and main north and south blocks with architraved casement windows with cornices, grouped as 3 windows to each major bay, the central window tripartite with segmental pediment. Bracketed main cornice with balustraded parapet surmounted by urns. Centre and pavilions with segmental pediments to dormer. Pavilions and main blocks have continuous cast iron balconies to 2nd floor.
