HORNTON EASTGATE SP3845 (East side) 16/119 Eastgate Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse, now house. C17 origins with later alterations. Squared, coursed ironstone. Steeply pitched C20-tile roof, replacing thatch. Renewed stone ridge and end stacks. 3-unit plan. 2 storeys plus attics and cellar. 5-window range. Entrance to right has a square headed doorway with hood mould and diamond shaped label stops, renewed. Ground floor has a 4-light stone mullioned window, a 4-light stone mullioned and transomed window and 3 smalll rectangular windows. First floor has three 3-light windows, a 2-light window and a small rectangular window. Most windows have hoodmoulds and label stops, some renewed. One full dormer and 3 gabled roof dormers. Interior. Plan altered in C20. Stop-chamfered beam and winder stair. (Buildings of England; Oxfordshire; 1974, p655; VCH: Oxfordshire; Vol IX, p125)
