HORNTON WEST END SP3844 (North side) 20/133 The Dun Cow Public House
GV II
Public house. Late C17 with later alterations. Coursed ironstone rubble. Steeply pitched thatched roof. Stone and brick ridge and end stacks. 3 builds. L-plan. Single storey plus attic and single storey on left. 4 entrances including a garage door, plank door, stable door and panelled/glazed door. Wood lintels. Entrance on right is flanked by 2-light metal casements in wood surrounds with wood lintels and hood moulds and label stops. Blocked 3-light stone mullioned window with hood mould to left and a 3-light metal casement with wood lintel. 2 half-dormers with 2-light stone mullioned windows with lead cames and wrought-iron casement fasteners. Single storey part to far left has slate roof. The Dun Cow is recorded as open by 1854 when it was a butcher's and a beer retailer's combined. (VCH). Right gable has 3-light metal casements with wood lintels. Interior not inspected. (VCH: Oxfordshire, Vol IX, p125)
