STATION ROAD 1. 1633 (East Side) Sussex Hotel SY 1287 1/125 12.10.51. II GV 2. Early C19. 3 storey stucco front with rusticated quoins and window openings. Stepped frieze, moulded cornice and blocking course. Steep mansard slate roof. 2 dormers with lozenge shaped ornament to pediments. 2 windows, recessed sashes 2nd floor, glazing bars intact. Later superimposed canted bay windows to ground and 1st floor with marginal glazed lights, 1st floor balcony resting on brackets has trellis balustrade End supports to tent-shaped canopy. Entrance to right on ground floor and small window to left possibly replacing door as house may have been divided originally.
The Sussex Hotel forms an important group with the Bedford Hotel. The Esplanade.
