GV II
Public House. Mid-late C17. Rubblestone with dressed stone to window openings and details, on stone plinth. Steeply pitched roof, now covered in concrete tiles with original coved eaves of plaster with roll moulding to lower edge. Original end stack of stone ashlar with recessed panels to sides, with entablature, on a square base with splayed upper edge. Right hand end stack, brick, C19. Two storeys and attic. Three gable dormers, C20. Moulded stone band between storeys. Four casements with original stone surrounds and ovolo mullions and a single light window with similar moulding at first floor. The three window openings at ground floor are C19 enlargements of the original but the window to the left hand appears to have the remains of the original surround. Original pedimented doorway at left end (Pevsner p.483) now removed. In the rear wall, first floor, one similar, original, blocked, window. The rest of the wall is obscured by additions. Inside the ground floor rooms have been much altered but retain stop chamfered main beams. Access to the first floor was unobtainable.
