6/123 The Rectory
GV II
Rectory. 1773 (dated stone) and mid C19. Yellow gault brick with steeply pitched slate roof and sawtooth eaves cornice. Original flush end stacks. Two storeys and attic with three catslide dormers. Later four pane hung sashes to each. Symmetrical facade of two, two-storey mid-late C19 canted bays with cement lintels on either side of original central doorway. Original door surround but C20 door. Above is C18 cambered arch window opening, now with four pane hung sash. Between the storeys the dentil band was continued round the canted bays when they were added in the C19. End walls have red brick diaper work and dated stone to right hand gable end. Mid C19 additions at rear. Adjoining service wing to right hand. Yellow brick with slate roof, and ridge stack. Segmental arch to one original three-light casement at first floor with arched top panes. Two similar openings at ground floor, one now blocked and the other with a later casement. Adjoining to left hand is mid C19 school of gault brick with steeply pitched Collyweston stone slate roof. Brick dripmoulds to C20 casements in original openings. Inside: the rectory retains the original staircase of two flights and landing with square newel and moulded rail, but the balusters have been boxed.
