WEAVERHAM C.P. FOREST STREET SJ 67 SW (North Side) 4/57 Methodist Church - - II
Methodist church: dated 1878 possibly by Edmund Kirby. English bond orange brick with terracotta dressings. Marley tile roof. T-shaped plan. Symmetrical gabled front to the road of 2 storeys and 3 bays. Brick plinth and moulded and dentilated cornice. The end bays are 2-storey canted bays with hipped roofs and single lancets in each face. The centre is framed by tall buttresses with triangular finials carrying a triangular gable. Ornately moulded band at 1st floor. Upper storey has a triple 2-light pointed arched window with simple plate tracery and a continuous label mould. Below single lancets flank a gabled doorcase with buttresses and terracotta detailing. Moulded 2-centred arched doorway has a pair of wooden panelled doors with strap hinges and cusped detailing. Bays of the sides are divided by buttresses and have double lancets and a bold cornice. Interior: entry into porch with gallery stairs to right. Giant pointed arched recesses to the pairs of windows. Terracotta detailing and cornice. Arch-braced tiebeam and collar trusses with cross braces. All fittings in grained pine. Gallery of tiered seats. Raised central pulpit with floral panels to the front and pierced balustrades to the side. Gothic rail encloses holy table. To either side are pointed arched entrances with pierced tympana. Original pews.
