Austonley Hall

II

House, part of farm group. Late C18-early C19 though earlier origin south elevation mid C19. Hammer dressed stone. Quoins to north. Half-hipped stone slate roof. Coped gable. Moulded stone brackets on string course. Three storeys. Ground floor: central doorway with millstone grit quoins, deep lintel, and chamfered reveals. Square plaque over has figure and harp motif with inscription: TE DEUM LAUDAMUS. Two 3-light stone mullioned windows to each side on all 3 floors. Inscription to south reads: C.G. 1763 (possibly reset). Left gable: 2 storeys. Ground and first floors: 2 sash windows. Rear: below ground level is 5-light double chamfered stone mullioned window.
