25.5.71 No 5 GV II

House, at 90° to group, separated by passage. 1685 (datestone), with considerable recent rebuilding. Hammer dressed stone with modern struck pointing. Quoins. Stone slate roof. Chamfered gable copings (and some new copings) on large square kneelers. Two storeys and attic. Formerly continuous string course above ground floor openings. South-east gable: central 12-light double chamfered, mullioned and transomed window to ground and first floors. These have new mullions and transoms and were formerly 4-light windows with transoms. Entrance to left with massive, arched lintel and moulded surround. Lintel has inscription: S I N 1685 To left of first floor window is former C19 two-light stone mullioned window now altered to form cross window. One 3-light double chamfered, stone mullioned window with hood mould to attic. Slightly set back to left is passage entrance with deep, arched lintel and chamfered surround. Above is cross window with hood mould. North-east side: Considerable rebuilding. External stack. To left is cross window to fist floor with same to ground floor though now single light. To right: former double chamfered windows now altered. Rear is rebuilt using rock faced stone. Reference with illustration in 'The History of Honley', Mrs M A Jagger, 1914.
