Details

CROOK AND WILLINGTON A 690 (North side) NZ 23 NW and NZ 23 SW Willington Willington Hall 25/8 and 33/8 17/4/52 and attached outbuilding GV II

House. Mid/late C18 possibly incorporating earlier building (owner's deeds 1640). Range of buildings with front added to left part. Main front painted rough render with painted ashlar dressings; roof Welsh slate. Outbuilding attached-at right sandstone rubble with quoins and brick or ashlar dressings; roof of pantiles with 5 rows of stone slates at eaves; brick chimneys. Gothic style house front. 2 storeys, 3 bays, the central projecting slightly; symmetrical. Central boarded door and blocked fanlight in flattened ogee- headed raised surround under square-headed panel; similar ogee surrounds and traceried glazing bars to sash windows in outer bays, those on first floor smaller and with projecting stone sills; small blocked opening of similar shape in battlemented gable over centrebay; battlemented parapet over outer bays. First floor band. Roof slopes down to valley gutter behind parapet; ridge over rear part. Outbuilding to right has roof extended forward to form catslide. Inserted window and renewed door at left. Interior: staircase with ramped handrail to first floor landing and upper flight; hardboard-covered stick balusters and block tread ends. Ground floor front windows have keyed architraves; architraves and panelled reveals to 6-panelled doors throughout Gothic part. High plain stone fire lintels in older part.
