Manor House. Dated 1630 on porch gable. Ham stone ashlar walls (front elevation), with grey rubble stone plinth. Front elevation divided by string courses at first and second floor level. Grey coursed rubble-stone side and rear walls, formerly rendered. Ham stone quoins. Plain clay tile roofs with stone gable-copings and scrolled kneelers. Gables of front elevation extend lower and wider on their outer pitch. Two main parallel ridges, east-west, and cross-ridge. Two sets of brick stacks, grouped in 4's, set diagonally, on main ridges at halfway point. Plan: symmetrical and double-depth with central hall-passage through to rear staircase position. Service-block, C17, mainly detached range immediately to east. Front (west)elevation: 2½ storeys. 5 windows, 3-light ovolo-moulded stone mullions, with chamfered stone cills, ground floor ones are cross-transomed. Cast-iron casements with glazing-bars. Attic windows are same, though 2-light with separate labels over. Porch, 2½ storeys, gabled, with 2-light mullions also. Entrance, with cyma and ovolo stone jambs, moulded imposts and round-headed moulded arch with massive projecting dropped keystone. Square-headed doorway inside, door with 6 recess panels, C20. Benches within porch. South elevation has a fossilized depressed- arch head (re-used), and smaller blocking at right hand. Joining passage to service-block, single-storey passage, dressed stone walls, doorway with stone lintel over, plank door, C19. Service-block (Ham house), dressed stone walls, clay tile roof, stone slab eaves, stone gable-copings, stone stacks with chamfered cornices at each gable, C17. 2 storeys. 2 windows, 3-light (left) and 2-light ovolo-moulded mullions. Mainly fixed cast-iron windows. North pitch of roof, longer and comprising an original outshut. Entrances: from house via passage, north outshut, east gable and at first floor level (internally) on to lane, plank with strap-hinges.

Interior:- main house, flagstone hall. C17 open fireplaces in north rear room, ovolo-moulded stone shelf, and position in south rear room. Upstairs fireplaces, rear, set diagonally in outer corners, depressed-arch heads and moulded jambs, C17. North, rear has C17 wood overmantel, 3 Ionic columns on shelf, with modillion architrave, fretwork frieze with 3 scrolls supporting a modillion cornice, 2 recessed wood panels with own framing of enriched round arches supported on columns having each an oil-sketch fantasy of moated houses with bridges. Service- Block has bakehouse open fireplace with bread oven. Ceiling-beams and roof construction intact. The House is a good example of compact Manor planning of 1630. (RCHM Dorset I, p.269(3).
