Details
CORFE CASTLE EAST STREET (West side) SY 96 82 7/49 Nos 4 and 6 (formerly listed as Nos. 137 and 138) 20.11.59 GV II Pair of cottages, originally one house. Early C17, altered in late C18. Coursed rubble stone walls, stone slate roofs, stone end stacks and one near centre. Original house of 3-room and cross-passage plane. One storey and attic. No. 4 has ledged door with small glass panel. No. 6 has ledged door under lead-covered pentice hood on wood brackets. Ground floor (of whole block) has 3 casements with horizontal glazing bars. Attic has 3 hipped dormers, 2 with casements with glazing bars, one with C20 metal casement. Rear wing in matching construction. Lean-to at-right end, also in matching construction. Internally, some exposed ceiling beams. Other early features probably survive under later plaster. A National Trust Property. (RCHM, Monument 26. Dorset. Vol. II).
