Farmhouse. Dated R M , but incorporates the remains of an earlier
1708 C17 house. Coursed, squared and dressed
large stone blocks with ashlar dressings; clay tile roof with coped
verges on shaped kneelers; coursed and squared stone integral end
stack to NE, brick stack to NW corner of main range. Main 3 bay
range of 1708 aligned NW-SE with narrow central entrance bay; lower
parallel range to rear terminated at NW end by a projecting
mid-C19 brick extension wing aligned NW-SE with further lean-to
extension to NW side. 2 storeys and attic; 5 windows; 2-light
chamfer mullioned windows in rebated surrounds, that to first floor
left remains original glass and lead cames; ground floor window to
right is a large late C19 or C20 glazing bar casement with ghosts
of earlier windows to both sides, ground floor window to right of
centre has a single light with rebated surround and a masons' compass
mark to the right hand jamb; central door with dated lintel;
continuous dripstone to ground floor windows stepped up over front
door. NW gable: 4 storeys; catslide roof to rear outshut; mid
to late-C19 ground floor canted bay to right with hipped roof, C20
casement to ground floor left, first floor casement to right with
straight hood mould, first floor 3-light chamfer mullioned window
to left, the central light blind, second floor casement to right of
centre with straight hood mould, blind 2-light chamfer mullioned
window above with straight hood mould; brick wing to left with lean-
to extension in front presenting casements and door. SE able:
Main range to left, rear range to right. Main range has 2-light
chamfer mullioned attic window in rebated surround to left of centre
and half glazed door to centre, roof line of earlier single storey
house is visible. Rear range has first floor casement to left.
Interior: Timber framed walls of c1708 define the central bay;
square panels and long tension braces of light scantling; continued
upwards as roof trusses with tie beam, collar, queen struts and
horizontal members linking queen struts to principal rafters; timber
framed smoke hood to N.W. first floor room, probably a remnant of an
earlier building; exposed stopped and chamfered beams.
