3/83 Birdsgrove House -
- II
House, now rest-home. Dated 1852. Ashlar; slate roof; ashlar ridge stacks with octagonal section shafts. Tudor-Gothic style. 2 storeys and attic with coved eaves course; 1:2:1 bays, recessed central range screened by ground floor loggia of three 4-centred arches (the central one wide) linking flanking gabled wings with coped verges on shaped kneelers and apex finial, the left hand wing of greater projection than the right hand one; 2-storey, 3-sided angled bay windows with crenellated parapets to each wing, mullioned and transomed windows containing plate glass sashes, attic windows to each wing are simply mullioned and of 2-lights, those to the angled bays and to the first floor of the central range have 4-centred heads and panelled spandrels, the central range ground floor and attic windows have straight heads, angled bay windows have 1:4:1 vertical lights and single transom, all central range windows have 2 vertical lights and single transom except an extra first floor window to the left which has 1 vertical light; central 4-centred doorway with panelled spandrels and stepped hood mould over a coat of arms and date; 2 gabled dormers to central range with painted barge boards and finials. Interior: Entrance hall has marble fireplace with segmental pointed arch, 3 bay arcade with bead and reel moulding screening open well staircase with turned balusters and shaped tread ends; front room to east has a Tudor arch stone fireplace.
