Details

KINVER C.P. DUNSLEY ROAD (North side) SO 88 SE 11/76 Dunsley Hall II House. Late C16 with rebuilding and additions of the C17, C18 and C19; external remodelling of the mid-C19. Timber framed core, outer walls rebuilt in brick, brick additions; plain tile roof with raised verges; brick ridge stacks. The house formerly consisted of a fully-floored hall range aligned east-west facing south with parlour wing to the west and service wing to the east both projecting north. The north side of the courtyard so formed was enclosed by an early C18 range. A late C19 wing now occupies the site of the demolished service wing. 2 storeys; 2 gabled wings flank a 3-bay hall range with central C19 gabled porch. Mid/late C19 wood mullioned windows with returned hood moulds, blind lancet loop to the gable of each wing. 4-centred door with panelled spandrels and returned hood mould. Interior: network of heavily moulded ceiling beams to hall and parlour wing, ovolo and ogee mouldings.Exposed timber framing of closely spaced studs and straight tension braces. C17 and C19 wall panelling; stone fireplace with 4-centred arch and heavily moulded surround at east end of hall range. Late C19 staircase in a C17 style with perforated splat balusters and elborate newel finials. V.C.H. Vol. XX (1984) pp. 134-5.
