4/37 Farm building south-east of Blackden Manor

GV II

Farm building 1709 (stone tablet built in wall). Thin red bricks in Flemish Bond with stone slab roof. 2 storeys. 5 truss bays. Half-heck doors on strap hinges, hopper-light windows. 2-course projecting brick band at first floor level. Square pitch holes, with heavy dowelled frames and vertical breather holes at loft level. External stone steps, with brick parapet and stone coping, at north gable-end lead to the loft. There is an elliptical pitch hole above the boarded loft access door. Interior: Late C17 style strutted trusses with oak purlins, ridgetree, wind braces and rafters. An added cross wing house and office at south end of the building is of no special interest. Included for group value.
