STANHOPE THE BUTTS NY 9939 (South end, off) 34/170 Stanhope Butts House 3.5.85 GV II

House. Circa 1760 and C19. Sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, some of millstone grit, and some quoins; stone-flagged roof with Welsh slate roof on left bay. 2 storeys, 4 bays, the left later and higher. Painted cyma-moulded square-headed surround to partly-glazed 6-panel door at right; large stair sash window with glazing bars at centre of 3-bay block flanked by first-floor sashes with glazing bars, all with irregular flat stone sills; left sash has one hinged pane at top. 2 small square ground-floor windows at left under flat stone lintels. Left bay has wood-mullioned cross window on ground floor, and narrow paired sashes on first floor, under flat stone lintels and with projecting stone sills. Large roof has ashlar-corniced end chimneys. Rear has 3 large first- floor 20-pane sashes.

Interior: stair visible through window has ramped handrail on tapered -column- and-vase balusters.
