2/25 Timberleys -
GV II
Former farmhouse, built in two stages, C15 and c.1600. 2 storeys, the later block to left also has attics. Timber-framed and plastered. Plaintiled roofs with large axial C17 chimney of red brick. C20 casements with leaded lights. C20 lean-to plaintiled entrance porch with panelled door. The right hand block consists of a C15 open hall of 1 1/2 bays with moderate smoke-blackening. A complete arch-braced open truss and coupled-rafter roof. There is evidence for the rear hall window which had square mullions. A service cell has been removed from the right hand end; unusually for a rural open hall, it contained the cross-passage (the spere beam remains, underbuilt, in the gable wall). A good moulded beam and joist ceiling was inserted in the hall in late C16 Circa 1600, a parlour cell was built (or rebuilt) to left. This has good quality framing, clasped-purlin roof, and a fireplace with moulded square frame and an elliptical arched head, all in brick. The hall fireplace is wider, with a cambered lintel.
