2/32 Darmsden Hall Cottage -

- II

House. C15 with alterations of C18. 1 storey with attics. Timber-framed and plastered, with some good C18 cable-pattern pargetting in large panels on south side. Concrete-tiled roof, formerly thatched; axial C17/C18 chimney of red brick. Various C19 and C20 casements. C20 entrance porch of garden side: brick, with concrete-tiled roof and 4-panelled door. A smoke-encrusted open hall forms the nucleus of the house. The complete open truss has a cambered and chamfered tie-beam with plain arch-braces. A closed truss has widely- spaced studding with long wind-braces of arch form. A large C17 chimney heating the hall appears to be placed against the cross-passage. Evidence for shuttered hall windows. The original service end cell is missing, a C18 kitchen taking its place; a storeyed cell at the upper end also has much C18 work. A lodged upper floor in the hall with reused joists and beams.
