SK7954SE NORTHGATE 619-1/5/313 (North West side) 29/09/50 No.35 and adjoining malthouse, kiln and stable.

GV II

House, adjoining malthouse and stable. Late C18 and early C19, with mid C19 and late C20 alterations. House, brick with hipped slate roof and 2 side wall stacks, has plinth, first floor band and dentillated eaves. 3 storey main block, 3 windows, has projecting centre with pediment. Three 12 pane sashes and above, a plain sash to left and two 6-pane sashes to right. All these windows have flat arches. Central moulded wooden doorcase with scrolled brackets to pediment and half-glazed panelled door with fanlight. On either side, single canted brick bay windows with 12 pane sashes. To left, 3 storey addition, with a single segment headed glazing bar fixed light and above it, a 16 pane sash. Below, a 12 pane sash and a plank door, both segment headed. To right, a 2 storey hipped wing with a single 6 pane sash and below, a segment headed 12 pane sash and a C20 door with gabled canopy. To right again, a further single storey hipped addition. Adjoining malthouse, now store, 2 storeys, 8x3 bays, has hipped pantile roof and dentillated eaves. Courtyard front has a plank door reached by stone steps and to its right, 2 small segment headed openings. Below, central pair of plank doors with wooden lintel flanked to left by a single plank door and to right by a segment headed window. Rear has 7 small glazing bar sliding windows. Adjoining disused kiln at left end, 3 storeys, has hipped pantile roof with 2 elaborate metal cowls. 4 segment headed barred openings and above, 2 similar flat headed openings. Ground floor has 3 C20 casements. Adjoining stable, to left, has 2 segment headed hatches and below, 2 sets of garage doors with wooden lintels, flanked to left by 2 blocked doors and a segment headed window. House interior has softwood open well stair with winders and stick balusters, with ramped and scrolled handrail. Ground floor left front room has moulded cornice with acanthus, and C19 marble Classical fireplace. Several moulded 6-panel doors. Malthouse has segmetal brick arched basement with round brick piers. Gypsum plaster floors and round iron piers to upper storeys. Strutted softwood queen post truss roof. Kiln has no floors and queen post truss roof.
