3/15 Granary and Meal House to north of East Farmhouse GV II



Probably the original farmhouse but later used as a granary and meal house. Late C17 with extensive C18 or C19 alterations. Limewashed rubble with pantiled roofs. Narrow rectangular plan. Single storey. Tall 2-bay granary to right of lower 2-bay meal house. Single doorways to both buildings flanked by slatted windows. All openings have oak lintels. On the internal cross-wall between the granary and the meal house is a blocked fireplace with a late C17 Tudor-arched head in a rectangular moulded frame and a recess for a spice cupboard to the left. On the rear of this cross-wall, in the meal house, are the remains of two corbels for the original chimney stack. Rear of granary has an external stone staircase leading to the loft. Roof timbers of both buildings renewed in C19.
