34/234 No. 1 and houses 26.11.85 adjoining in Butts Head, The Butts GV II Coachhouses, and coachmen's and ostler's houses; now 3 houses in Market Place and 3 in left return to The Butts. Early C19. Coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and quoins; stone-flagged roof with ashlar chimneys. L-plan. 3 storeys except for 2-storey house at right and lower 2-storey wing at left; 7 bays and 6 in left return. Market Place elevation has irregular fenestration, flat stone lintels over boarded door and 4-pane overlight in second bay, and glazed doors in fourth and seventh bays. Irregular fenestration: sashes with glazing bars andlate C19 sashes; second and third bays, raised from catslide, have C20 windows. Canted bay window in fifth bay has hipped roof. Pent roof on 2-storey left wing; flat roof-on raised part; other roofs low-pitched with right end chimneys to each house. Left return has central segmental-arched coach entrance, and left house projecting with doorcase of pilasters and entablature to panelled door and 2-pane overlight in inner return.
