4/76 West Parkgate Farmhouse.
14/4/1967
II
Farmhouse: dated 1620, second gable front added later C17, modernised
and added to 1950. Coursed buff sandstone rubble with pink sandstone
dressings. Kerridge stone-slate roof with central stone chimney.
Originally baffle entry with parlour wing to left and 2 rooms to
right. 2-storey, nearly symmetrical 4-bay front with stone-coped end
gables projecting forward slightly. Right end bay has 5-light splayed
stone mullions in both storeys with a blocked semi-circular headed
light above. Left end bay similar but 2 single-light windows below
and date in gable light. Central bays have 5-light below and 4-light
above and a blocked entrance.
Interior: Room partitions are timber framed with lath and daub
infill. Fireplace has bevelled openings in parlour and room above and
in rear of stack, remains of a brick oven and a spice cupboard with
early C18 moulded panelled doors. Ovolo moulded beams in lower storey
and a simple kingpost truss and a diagonally strutted truss visible in
roof.
