Details
STANHOPE STOTFIELD BURN NY 94 SW Rookhope 10/275 Former Inn GV II Inn, now house. Early C18 with C19 alterations, possibly incorporating earlier building. Painted rubble with large irregular plinth and ashlar dressings; stone-flagged roofs with stone and brick chimneys. L-plan. 2 storeys; 5 bays in 2 builds. First 3-bay build at left has flat stone lintel and prominent alternate-block jambs to central renewed door. Plain sashes in outer bays have flat stone lintels and projecting stone sills. Slightly set-back lower 2-bay part at right has flat stone lintels to 2 irregularly-placed wide windows, with one thin and one projecting stone sill. Blank first-floor with through- stones at floor level and just above half-height 3 ridge chimneys and one on rear wing. Rear one-storey, one-bay extension to first build, under catslide roof; rear door to second build in wide stone surround. Left return gable has massive squared boulder plinth and one plain sash; left rear wing has partly- glazed 6-panel door in wide stone surround; flat stone lintels and sills to ground-floor late C19 sash and small fixed light, and to first-floor horizontal sliding sash.
Interior: wide horizontal planks screen space below central stair; boarded screen passage to right of stair with central door to room with large beams which have run-off chamfers and joists with slightly-stepped chamfer-stops. Some walls one metre thick. Blocked door in right gable between first and second builds. Roof: pegged A trusses with principals thicker on inner edge towards feet.
