Casterton House, ha-ha wall, gates and railings

House,ha-ha wall, gates and railings. Late C18, refronted and
refitted c.1830. Ashlar faced. Red brick, slate roofs, behind
parapet on the front. 2 stone gable stacks, the left hand one
reduced, copper roofed verandah, cast iron railings and gates. 3
storey, 3 bay front with plinth, first floor band, parapet,
centre bay slightly advanced, end pilasters. To ground floor a
verandah on slender cast iron supports with segmental arches and
decorative spandrels. Central half glazed and panelled door with
fanlight in semi-circular moulded stone surround, flanked by
single canted bay windows with plain pilasters to the angles. To
first floor 3 plain sashes with moulded stone architraves and
cornices. The second floor has 3 similar windows but without
cornices. To the left a lower 2 storey single bay recessed wing
containing a doorway with moulded stone architrave and narrow
hood supported on scrolled brackets. Above a sash window with
plain apron and moulded architrave. To the right a single storey
service wing with stepped parapet. Interior retains a fluted
stick baluster stair with wreathed handrail, carved open string,
fluted newel. Contemporary joinery with fluted architraves,
roundels in the angles, semi-circular hall arch and moulded
plaster cornice. In the front of the house a semi-circular brick
ha-ha wall with limestone copings, supports a cast iron fence
with octagonal panels, anthemia and pierced square piers to side
gates.
