Walton Mill House

II

Mill house. Dated brick of 1800 with the initials TW and RF on the front elevation, but the
building incorporates a fragment of an early C16 building. L-shaped main building to south and
one storey early C19 addition to north. Main building of red brick in English bond with
pegtiled roof and brick chimneystack to north. Three storeys; 3 windows. C20 wooden
casements in original openings, cambered to lower floors and blank to centre of second floor.
Brick corbelled eaves. Central doorcase with rectangular fanlight, 6 fielded panelled door and
wooden brackets supporting C20 tiled pent roof. Early C19 wing to north of one storey
painted brick with half-hipped tiled roof with brick chimneystack to rear. Two C20 casements
and door boarded at time of survey. Brick buttresses to side elevation. C20 lean to extension to
rear. Interior ground floor south room has open fireplace with curved wooden bressumer dated
1523 with the initials JM, 2 salt recesses and 2 curved wooden seats. Spine beam with 2 inch
chamfer and lambs tongue stop. Circa 1800 staircase with column newel, old floorboards and
doors, including one with tapering planks.
