ST 67 NW WINTERBOURNE FRENCHAY COMMON (south side), Frenchay 3/50 3.3.61 Church of St. John Baptist G.V. II Anglican Parish Church. 1834 by H. Rumley, tower restored 1923 by Hartland Thomas. Rubble, freestone, slate roof. West tower, galleried nave, chancel, north porch, south vestry. 2 stage tower with heavy, weathered diagonal buttresses, heavily moulded pointed door with angel corbels, 2 light Decorated window above, clock under label, single lights to side with cusped oculus at top, battlemented parapet, octagonal spire; 5-bay nave, battlemented, tall buttresses, windows, plain Y-tracery below, Decorated above; gabled and buttressed north porch; narrower gabled chancel has 4-light Decorated east window. Interior: galleried, tall wave and shaft piers rise to almost round arches and then to ribbed plaster vaults, moulded chancel arch and plaster vaulted sanctuary. (Source: D.
