Lyddendane House
(Formerly listed as Lyddendane)
II
House. Dated 1756 for Thomas Pilcner (datestone) with C19 alterations, mid-
C20 extension, and later C20 alterations. Red and blue brick in Flemish bond
to front, otnerwise in English bond, front having red-brick window jambs and
vertical strips; extension of red brick in Flemish bond. Plain tile roof.
2 storeys, 5 bays, with added bay to right. Stepped plinth. Entrance, at
centre of original range has door of 6 raised and fielded panels in doorcase
with moulded pilasters, cornice and flat nood; datestone above; a brick on
right of door inscribed with probably - C18 seriffed lettering, "MP". 4-pane
sash windows in sligntly narrowed openings, tnose on ground floor with segmental
brick arches and dripmoulds. Stepped dentilled eaves. Hipped roof with stacks
at left end, to left of centre of original range, and at right end of original
range (C20).
Rear: plinth is stepped. An old doorway on left (with 20 door) and 3-light
leaded casement each under segmental brick arch, the window with dripmould.
On right a C20 French window with 2-light window to left and small window above
on right. Two 3-light leaded casement windows to 1st floor. Added outshirt
on right. Left return: stack projects slightly; a 2-light window on left
below eaves; stepped dentilled eaves.
Interior; on ground floor, champered spire beams with lambs tongue stops and
joists with run-out champers; front door has old ironware; two large fireplaces
(to central rooms) with brick jambs and champered timber bressumers, that in
left room with former bread-oven opening, that in right room with candle or
lamp recesses and later firplace inserted. Winder stair at right end has column-
on-vase balisters to landing balustrade.
