Details
The following building shall be added to the list; BIRMINGHAM GAS STREET SP 06238648 32/10061 Cottage and outbuilding adjoining NW of number 42 Gas Street II Cottage and associated yard (presently offices). Probably built for the Worcester and Birmingham Canal Company. c1800. Brick construction with pitched slate roof. Main facade, painted, facing canal. Rear facade on Gas Street. Two storey structure. Entrance offset to the right of centre flanked by single four light sash windows with chamfered arches and stone cills. Two wall ties ending in square cast iron plates at first floor. First floor having four light sash windows aligned with those below and bricked in window opening with stone cill in the centre. Moulded eaves cornice. Brick chimney stacks at each gable. Lean-to brick structure with slate roof at right of main elevation has multi-pane metal bay window and doorway, possibly former toll office. Adjoining yard area to right again enclosed by curved brick wall with door opening bricked up c20. Additional lean-to brick out-building with slate roof and single chimney stack found in yard. Stone steps connect yard up to street level through timber gate in wall.
