Parish church. C12 with C13 and C14 alterations, restoration 1880. Red sandstone blocks, probably from a Roman building, under graduated greenslate roof with coped gables and cross finials. 3-bay nave with south porch, north vestry and west open bellcote. Lower single-bay chancel with south chapel, common to south aisle. Nave has 2-light C19 windows in north wall. Porch has pointed arch under ogee-headed niche. South aisles and side chapel have small chamfered-surround windows. Stone set into wall inscribed I.F.B.P. West wall has built-in medieval graveslab fragment. Chancel has one original tall narrow window in south wall and 3-light C19 east window. North side of nave roof has 2 C20 dormer windows with leaded panes. Rainwater heads on chancel dated 1880. Interior has C13 elliptical arcade arch with the remains of a blocked C12 south window above. C13 square font with stiff-leaf ornament on columned shaft. Open queenpost roof. C12 narrow segmental chancel arch. Chancel has piscina and aumbry. Royal Arms dated 1733 with 4 text boards of similar date. Over the chancel arch is a framed early C18 painting of the Last Supper, probably by Matthias Read, who also designed a wall plaque in chancel to Joseph & William Senhouse. Stained-glass east window by John Scott of Carlisle, 1849. See Transactions Cumberland & Westmorland Antiquarian & Archaeological Society, new series, xiii, pp.255-260.
